ScoreSpace Jam overview

How the game jam went

I'm really happy and proud of how the game jam went, It is in no way a "finished" game as it's only got 3 levels. But its a 3 day game jam, the main goal was to get a game finished that had all the core mechanics finished and a framework in place that would allow me to easily update and expand upon features, mechanics, and levels which I can happily say is the case. Overall I had a really fun time during the game jam, was definitely worth the 2 nights spent up until 4 am working on the game.

Future plans

As for future plans, I already got a fair few things planned for the next update which I'll begin working on really soon. Some features / mechanics that might be in the next update will be

  • New levels (This is definitely happening)
  • Health potions on later levels
  • Chests / Mimics
  • More quality of life changes

The new levels part is absolutely happening, you can count on that. Same could be said about health potions, although I am wanting the game to stay difficult so that it forces the player to decide between risking it for a lot of coins or taking the safe route which is usually going for the ladder which gives a set amount of coins. So that being said, health potions will only come into player from roughly level 4 onwards and will be sparse as to keep the player on their toes and to be resourceful about their health.

The chests / mimics idea is one I've had for a while and thought could be a really cool idea, there aren't really any enemies as of yet in the game and I don't plan on their being any combat or full blown enemies as of now. Although the mimics idea is that there will also be chests which reward the player with coins! although beware, some chests aren't what they appear and will deal damage to the player upon revealing to them their true nature... Mimics can be detected via the surrounding environment, I've always loved environmental story telling in game and what better way to bring that into this game than by making the player have to pay attention to their surroundings and surrounding areas of any chests to make sure there's no "evil" nearby.
