September 2022
This last month has been really productive, a lot of the things that have been changed or added are things I cannot show off or don't want to due to spoiling the game. here are the changes and additions made to the game that are able to be shared with you all, hope you enjoy!
Sound design and Atmosphere
The sound and atmosphere of the game has gone through the biggest changes throughout the last month.
Ambience
Random ambience has been implemented into the game and runs on a randomised countdown, which side of the ship the audio plays on is randomised as well.
There's various types of audio that can play, some are the creaking and often eerie sounds that the ship naturally make and others are less explainable... is there something out there with you?
There's also scripted moment in the game which include ambience and sound, below is a example of one of those moments.
What causes a alarm to go off in a ship that's isolated and far away from any known life?
Button sounds
Sounds for things such as buttons has been added in finally.
The long lasting sound and leadup for the camera creates tension as the player waits to see what might be looking right at them, just outside of the rover..
Below is a clip of some of the sounds in action .
Lighting
The lighting has undergone some minor changes but those minor changes are what makes a immersive experience.
In the video linked in the sound section you can see that light in action with the alarm spinning around casting shadows on the wall as it goes past the table.
Lighting is an important aspect to the game, especially through what the rover see's. the rovers vision and lighting is likely to undergo multiple drastic changes over the course of development.
Ceiling light model
The light on the roof has finally gotten a model, I didn't want to do anything too over the top so I decided on just having a basic light with a cage around it to give it a industrial look.
The bulb in the cage is transparent with the lighting nodes inside of it so that it appears more realistic and immersive.
A weird box in Mexico
On April 6th 2030 a box was found in Mexico by some tourists, the box contained a countdown and was handed over to authorities.
The authorities commenced several tests on the box, trying to open it. all attempts failed, the box wasn't impacted at all.
Shortly after the box was handed over to the police, news stations all across the world were highjacked by an unknown power and played the same message.
Widespread panic and chaos ensured, the end of the world was approaching.
