November 2022
As we come closer to a release of Astrophobia the focus of my time spent while developing has been focused on optimisation and finalising the ending/endings to the game.
Once the game is fully out and playable there will be a post-mortem post to reflect on the project, as it was my first time working on a project and first time in Godot there's a lot that I learnt and could/will improve on.
But for now, lets just jump right into what happened throughout the past month that I'm willing to share with you all.
Welding gun
A welding gun has been modelled and added to the ship.
Apart from just being nice looking, the welding gun will have a in game purpose.
You will be able to pick up the welding gun and use it to fix any potential problems that may occur on the ship, either due to the ships rusted and old state or any outside force that may be peering in.
The flame on the welding gun initially caused quite a bit of trouble when it came to optimisation and had the FPS slowly tank overtime when used.
Introduction info/Help menu
An introduction screen is now showed when pressing play, you can now also press F1 to view a quick rundown of controls and how the rover/ship works.
Baked in lighting
As you may have noticed in the above screenshots and videos, the lighting is very different. not only is baking in the lighting good for the atmosphere and create a more harsh and sharp lighting to the ship, it also optimises the lighting within the game. a two in one package.
As you can see, the darkness is a lot harsher and darker than it used to be. the well lit areas are also a lot more vibrant, bringing life to the ship.
Trailer/Release date
It may not be the best trailer but I have quickly thrown together a trailer for the game to show off the basic gameplay of it along with giving a time of release.
The game will be releasing sometime late this year.
If need be I will change this to the first couple months of next year, but that's a worst case scenario.
There wasn't a whole lot to unpack in this months devlog but as I said, that's due to the focus on wrapping up optimisation and features that I'm wanting to be a surprise to everyone. There is a lot of features that I haven't even spoken about in the devlogs or videos that'll be discoverable in Astrophobia.
All feedback is welcome in the comments to this devlog or in the discord server
